Washington State Foreclosure Mediation

The program, created by the 2011 Foreclosure Fairness Act, helps homeowners and lenders explore possible alternatives to foreclosure and reach a resolution whenever possible. The Act requires lenders to notify homeowners, prior to initiating foreclosure, of the availability of foreclosure counseling and the potential for mediation, and to participate in mediation with homeowners who have been referred to the Mediation Program.

Resolution Washington, the statewide association of DRCs, provided valuable input to policy makers as the bill was crafted and several members provided testimony that helped advance the bill. DRC mediators are identified within the bill as one category of eligible mediators. The Department of Commerce provided training for these mediators.

Six Rivers Dispute Resolution Center is proud to be a member of Resolution Washington, and a contributor to the development of cutting edge uses of mediation.
